Listening to Africa

Anglophone African Literatures and Cultures

In keeping with the profile of ‘anglistik & englischunterricht’, this volume discusses texts, genres and themes that are central to Anglophone literatures and cultures in West, East and South Africa. It contains contributions by South African and German scholars from various disciplines such as history, linguistics, literary and cultural studies, all of whom are experienced in teaching and researching on Africa.
Despite its cultural vibrancy, Africa does not feature prominently in the English language classroom or in German university programmes, where it is most often taught in African and in English Studies departments. This book is designed to promote the presence of Anglophone literatures and cultures from Africa at schools and universities by providing lecturers, teachers and students with ideas and material for further reading and research. The intention is to create an awareness of the rich diversity of African literatures and cultures.
